Get ready for your next adventure on the water with our Fall Marine Courses! Whether you're looking to master navigation, operate a VHF marine radio, or enhance your cruising skills, we offer expert-led courses designed to build your confidence and knowledge.

Each course is led by Diane, a professional skipper, racer, and instructor with over 100,000 nautical miles of experience. As a Sail Canada instructor and Royal Yachting Association Ocean Yachtmaster, Diane has raced and taught on a variety of boats, from Mini 650s to Volvo 60s. Her extensive knowledge spans everything from cruising to offshore survival. With Diane's guidance, you'll gain hands-on practice and the certification you need to be fully prepared for your time on the water.

Sailboat Cruising

Intermediate Cruising Course (Theory)

Looking to learn more about the systems on your boat? This Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising theory course is designed to help you understand the ins and outs of plumbing, electrical, engine, sail trim, and many other aspects of cruising for extended trips.

Interested in certification or just education? This course includes the theory test for the Intermediate Cruising certification, which, when combined with an on-water sailing practical course, leads to full certification.

Whether you're seeking full accreditation or just the knowledge, this course will help you get there.

Saturday November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2024, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
5 sessions - 19 hours total
$360 plus taxes, including the testing session.

Basic Navigation Chart

Basic Coastal Navigation Course

Join our Sail Canada Basic Navigation course and learn all the essential skills to confidently navigate your next adventure. This course includes hands-on practice with a paper chart, plotting protractor, and dividers.

Upon passing the final exam, you will receive a Sail Canada certification.

Course Details

  • Dates: Sundays, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1, 15, 22, 2024
  • In-Person: 0900 - 1200 at The Rigging Shoppe
  • Online (Zoom): 1400 - 1700

Fee: $550 + taxes (includes charts, plotting equipment, and testing fees)

VHF

VHF Marine Radio Course

Welcome to the world of using your VHF radio on your boat. This course will guide you through learning how to send and receive radio calls, call a Mayday, troubleshoot your transmissions, and prepare you for the written test.

Successful completion of the test leads to certification of your Radio Operator Certificate Marine – Digital Selective Calling. This certification is required by law in Canada to use a VHF radio on your boat.

Saturdays, November 2 and 9, 2024, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
$215 plus taxes, includes testing session.
