Diane Reid, Professional Skipper RYA YM Ocean CE Sail Canada, IYT and World Sailing Instructor.

Diane is a professional Skipper, Racer and Instructor whose career has spanned over 150,000 miles throughout Lake Ontario, the Atlantic and Southern Ocean and various bits in between. Whether in a Mini 650, a Clipper 70 or a Volvo 60, Diane has taught or raced on it. When Diane is not on the water, she can be found volunteering with various committees on Lake Ontario, building your rig at The Rigging Shoppe or teaching us all how to sail and drive the sport of sailing to great new levels. 

Rigging

  • How to check all the lines, stranded wires, rod rigging and fittings that give your mast strength and integrity. Simple ways to check your rig at the end of the season. Make sure it is going to be strong for the next season or get it in for service before its too late. The Rigging Shoppe have been the experts in the field for over 50 years. Diane Reid walks you through the process they use at the Shoppe to give you piece of mind that your rig will be good for another season or give you a heads up that a little service work is needed before time runs out.

Suddenly Alone

  • What do you do when someone falls in the water and you are left onboard to get back to them. Learn some simple steps you can do on your own or with others on board to get back to the person. Then learn about some of the tools you can use to get them onboard. Sail or power boater, there are mechanisms for all of you to go out and practice this spring.

  • Ever been caught out in bad weather only to say “ I had no idea this was coming”. Its frustrating and shouldn’t be the case. In this seminar, learn about the forecasts available to us, how to understand the forecast and the language they use in presenting the forecast. Don’t get caught out in bad weather again.
